Everyone of us has the ability to connect to a deeper sense, or additional sense, if you like, which is known as the intuition. Or, the 6th sense. This sixth sense is the one that tells you not to do down that dark alley, or to have your car checked before heading out on a long trek, or not to get on that ship called the Titanic. It can manifest in a variety of ways: from a bad feeling in your gut (hence: gut feeling), to a general unease, to an actual voice in your ear, or head. It is primarily a warning system: like an alarm that is activated when you are considering going home with that guy you just met even though you feel like something's 'off'...and conclude it's likely because of that 3rd martini you consumed. That feeling has nothing to do with martinis! People who are ulta sensitive to this 6th sense will often be able to pick up warning vibes that are connected to other people and will be able to pinpoint these 'vibes' using any manner of divinational aids, such as tarot cards or pendulums or runes...or by simply focusing on the energy of the person, allowing their mind to open to the Universe and trusting the images that form in their minds and the words that flow from their mouths. Intuitives, or sensitives, are usually gentle folks, with artistic talents, an interest in the metaphysical or the unusual and are not generally of a forceful nature or interested in amassing material wealth or positions of absolute power. In fact, many of these true sensitives will have water elements somewhere in their astrological charts...most often Pisces or Cancer and since water is connected to the emotions, these sensitives make ideal therapists, spiritual counsellors or Tarot readers. However, in my view, there is a vast difference between an intuitive and a psychic. A psychic person will be able to sense, view, smell and feel essences and energies that are beyond our 'normal' capabilities. These folks can go backwards or forwards in reality/history, or foresee events before they happen: usually in picture form and often in dreams (precognitive dreaming) and sometimes years before the actual events. (I had a dream that I will never forget...it was so realistic and shocking in content that it seriously frightened me and I was unable to shake its effects for days. In this dream, I was standing below two towering skyscrapers, the likes of which we simply do not have in my hometown, or didn't have at that time. The tops of these buildings were on fire and people were jumping or falling to the ground...that was 2 years before 9/11.) Tapping into alternate realities is not unusual, nor is connecting to spirits who have passed over but are not yet free to leave due to unfinished business here in this Earth plane 'reality'. I am not psychic, and I am grateful for that, for I do believe that would be quite the burden at times...I am, however, highly intuitive and can and do pick up all sorts of messages, energy images and flashes of insight, or knowledge... These two descriptives are often confused. If you go to an 'intuitive reader', you will be visiting with someone like myself, who is open to the higher plane (or the idea that there is a 'higher' essence that we can tap into) and is able to receive communications that are aimed at assisting the client. However, this sense does not come fully installed and activated like your eyes and ears: this one requires deliberate, focused and consistent training and work over a period of many years and, like anything else, if you work at it, you will eventually get better at it. So again, each of us has this sense and only needs to acknowledge, accept and listen to it in order to become fully sensitive. So the next time you 'get a funny feeling' about something or someone, LISTEN to yourself instead of trying to explain it away, telling yourself you are over-reacting, or imagining things or just losing your marbles. Here are two short examples of situations where I did not listen to my intuition, despite having worked with it for years...the first happened around 10 years ago...and the second, only last year...so you can see that it is an ongoing process which is still vulnerable to dismissal, even by someone who tries to be consistant and vigilent. Ten years ago, I was giving readings at a Metaphysical store in my town. I had a lovely reading room at the back of the store which lead out to a long, private walkway which was locked and virtually inaccessible. It was summertime and warm, so I left the back door open, had an incredibly busy day and as I ushered my last client out towards the front of the store, I heard, very clearly 'Close and lock the back door.' The voice was in my head...and I thought, what? again I'm hearing voices? Immediately thereafter, I thought of the velvet bag on the table which held my drivers license and cash. Quite a bit of cash, that day! Unfortunately, I ignored the voice and went out to the front of the store where I spent perhaps 2 minutes tops before returning to my reading room. As I gathered my belongings to head home, I picked up the velvet bag which held the cash...and paused. Only a moment before, there had been a distinct thickness to the pouch, and now it was flat. My license was there. The cash was gone. It had happened in no time at all, and a quick look out the long walkway revealed no one and a gate that was still locked. To this day, I don't know what happened. Why wouldn't someone who wanted my cash just take the entire bag? Why take the time to open the drawstring, tug the cash out, replace the bag...only to, seemingly, vanish into thin air? It honestly seemed to me, in retrospect, to have been engineered by the Universe itself in an attempt to catch and hold my attention forevermore regarding the power of the intuition and the benefit of paying mind to its messages. I think that money is somewhere up in the ether... The second occasion was a potentially more serious situation. My next door neighbour at the time was a single mom with a little girl. Now, this little girl was truly an angelic being, with soft blond curls and saucer sized blue eyes. One day, this little girl called to me from the stairs below her apartment, which, in itself, was slightly unusual as she was not allowed past the gate of her patio. I chatted with her briefly and admired her sparkly white party dress and handbag...this child looked like she had just stepped from a children's fantasy book. While chatting, that 'voice' tried to get my attention a number of times and the form it took was 'where is her mother?'...and then 'ask her where her mother is'...needless to say, I overroad the voice and ducked back into my own suite for a minute or two. When I returned, she was gone. I thought nothing of it until another neighbour appeared a few minutes after that, obviously panicked and calling for both the mother and the child. To make a long story short, the child had disappeared. My husband and I joined in the search of the area along with other neighbours. I remember thinking to myself that if anything happened to that beautiful child, I would never be able to forgive myself. I went out to the park alongside our house in my barefeet and stood at the approximate area she would have had to have stood, then I opened my mind and allowed myself to be moved. I did not think, I did not focus, I simply allowed myself to be guided. Across that park and in a house nearby, the child was found, safe and sound. That experience shook me. It told me that I was still vulnerable to my ego...the human tendency to dismiss what we feel as ridiculous or to doubt our own senses. The intuition is our connection to the Cosmic Parent, the umbilical cord, if you like, through which flows a knowing that is beyond our scientific understanding or explanation. The 6th sense is a gift from God: one that is either graciously accepted and used or one that is cast aside like a useless old telephone. The reason I shared these two vignettes is fairly self-evident, I should think! So the next time you have that funny feeling, that moment of something-isn't-right-here, maybe you will remember this article and pay that God-given message the attention it deserves. If you would like more info on how the intuition works, see 'Keep it Simple' on the menu bar. Choosing a reader or a psychic Okay, this is really simple. And it involves your intuition. If you feel good with the reader, do it. If you don't, don't. Never pay to have a spell removed, or cast or 'to bind' or whatever: genuine workers in this field are involved because they truly wish to aid their fellow man and will never ask for hundreds or thousands of dollars to light a candle to 'break an evil spell that has been cast over your family', for example. I am not saying that ritual does not work (see 'Working with Candles' on the menu bar) but I am saying that the person who is directly involved with the situation is the one with the most energy and is the one who should conduct any ritual. I could, most certainly light a candle for you, however, YOU have the strength of emotional investment and YOU are the one who should conduct the energy work. Look for someone in your area who comes well recommended. If you don't know anyone, ask around! If there is a good reader in your area, you will hear about her/him through word of mouth. Don't call mass 'psychic lines'...I once worked for (in my innocent years!) Ms. Cleo...anyone remember her? I did it for the right reasons, but I can tell you honestly that that was another situation when my inner voice was screaming that something was wrong, wrong, wrong!!! And I was right, right, right! Most (not all...usually area codes that are nowhere near you) phone-in psychic lines are all about getting your money. That's it. It's a business and nothing more. There are a few good readers working the lines, but it's just not worth your money to try to find them. A good reader/psychic will never scare you or tell you something bad will happen if you don't do A, or B or C. Nothing is set in stone; you have free will and changes are constant...what a good consultation will do for you is forecast the most likely events based on the energy present at the time. A good reader will not read for you if they are tired or feeling unwell: they would rather set up another time or appointment with you than wing off a lousy reading. In all honesty, reading a stranger is like doing a cold call...the reader knows nothing about the client and is sewing the images and messages together to form a picture that you will recognize as personal to you...what I am saying is that an 'interactive' reading is much more productive than a 'one sided' one. This is not to say that you, as a client, should tell the reader your life story before the reading, no. In fact, ideally, nothing should be discussed before the reading. However, after the cards have been laid out and read, it would be beneficial to the client to provide some linking information to the reader, who will then be able to delve deeper into the messages presented. I always say that doing a reading is like peeling an onion: there are many layers. (And some might make you cry!...don't be surprised or embarassed if you find yourself touched or moved during a reading...these session have a way of opening us up and releasing energies that are toxic. A good thing, trust me!) In closing, the sensitives of the world are everywhere. You are one, I am one and the other guy is one. The only difference between us is our level of openness to the idea that there is a greater power out there and that we are connected to that power. And that our intuition is that connection made manifest. Just listen. Hugs from go to: ezine@rticles author: Heather Lagan Everything is exactly as it should be....relax.
